Catching the expressions of dogs -- at work, at play, and at rest. Calendar and magazine photos, treasured family mementos. At play in the tide, posed by flowers, over jumps in agility, or herding sheep.

How to photograph a litter of puppies:

Assemble three very patient friends, fairly agile. Gather litter of puppies at five weeks of age. Play with them vigorously for 30 minutes. When they start seeking quiet, solitude, and shade, line them up calmly. Helpers dive to the side; photographer makes gentle noise. Repeat process twenty times. Four weeks old is too young. Six weeks old is too old. Patience is rewarded. Puppies need to have their faces along the same plane to be in focus.

These aren't my puppies, but they're awfully cute!
